Kerkove

Kerkove (Juni 21, 10514 - ) is a Fifth Age Imrhys man. He has been a scribe, a student, a nobleman of the Zierathan Alliance, a hermit, and is currently the King of Kerkovia

History

The Fifth Age (10,001-12,500 AI)

Early Life

Kerkove was born in the Castle Zierath suburb of Halberd. His father was a licensed hunter in the Forest of Zierath, and his mother was one of the caretakers of the Halberd Central Niurb Tree. He was powerful in magic, and he excelled at both letters and artwork.

When Kerkove was fifteen, he entered the University of the Zierath. He trained to be a Scribe, and right out of college, he was employed by the Zierathan Alliance Documents Department as an associate scribe. (retold in Z:LotA chap. 23)

Awakening

Kerkove was working as an associate scribe in the Zierathan Alliance Documents Department. He spent a lot of time copying various documents. He found the work very boring. During work, he taught himself how to juggle. On On Romolom 17, 10534, he focused so much on the juggling that he Awakened and the balls continue to juggle themselves. They juggle themselves for the next 513 years. That day became a national day of mourning. (told in Z:LotA chap 23)

Zierath sensed Kerkove's Awakening and took the newly Awakened Imrhys under his wing and started training him.

Kuker

Kerkove was joined in his training by Kuker in 10,820 AI.

The University of Rado

Kerkove accompanied Zierath back to his homeland in Muskegeon, Rado, and the University of Rado. While at the University, they met Pouli. Pouli and Kerkove developed a friendly rivalry, and Pouli accompanied them back to the Zierathan Alliance in 10,925 AI.

The Crossing

As part of his education, Kerkove chose to go to the Crossing, the homeland of the Imrhys. He traveled with the Third Age Imrhys Melanie. While there, they met the Fourth Age Imrhys DeeDee. Despite their differences, the three Imrhys worked well together.

The Stone Rook

In 11,006, Kerkove sensed the Awakening of Jason of Demos at Stone Rookery. He took Jason and led the young Imrhys to Hunt where he was apprenticed to Daveed.

Boratch

In 11166, on another of his trips to the Crossing and further east, Kerkove, Melania, and DeeDee battled Boratch. It was a hard fight, but the Imrhys drove him off. (mentioned in Z:LotA chap 27)

Westmark

In 11186, Kerkove, Melanie, and DeeDee travelled to the country of Westmark. They discovered that Westmar has slipped deeply into madness and had started the genocide of the elves. The three Imrhys attacked the elder Imrhys and were severaly wounded - Kerkove loses vision in one eye and Melanie's knees were shattered. To save DeeDee, Kerkove summoned all of his strength and electrocuted Westmar. Westmar's synapses re-alligned, and he realized what he had done. He died attempting to make amends, burning out his energy in an attempt to heal the land and all within it. Kerkove, despite his wishes, becomes the new king of the newly renamed country of Kerkovia.

The Diamond Sabre

Colletta travelled to Kerkovia. At the urging of the Diamond Sabre, she passed the weapon to Kerkove.

The Sixth Age (12,501-15,000 AI)

Lemark Island

In 12832, Kerkove, DeeDee, and the Stone Rook led an attack on Gyshouto's Tower on Lemark Island. Gyshouto is killed by a crossbow bolt from DeeDee, and the vampire clans on Lemark Island are nearly wiped out.

Andreea

Andreea, a refugee from Lemark Island, Awakened, and Kerkove started to train her.

Teeya

The Stone Rook and King Kerkove finally heard about the Imrhys ruler of Knapp, and go to talk to her. She saw them as a threat, especially with the Stone Rook's view of democracy and freedom, and, following her training, attempted to poison them. This annoyed the two Imrhys lords, and Teeya had to flee from them.

The Fourth Gnarrhys War (13,706-13,710 AI)

The Fall of Kerkovia

Kerkovia was invaded on Juni 27, 13,708. The local populace was overwhelmed quickly by the waves of possessed sentients, including four Imrhys - DeeDee, Invera, Alamap, and Angeno. Kerkove was teaching at the Art Institute when the Gnarrhys possessed arrived. His students were possessed right in front of his eyes, and he was forced to slay some of his most promising students. Kerkove was able to hold them off with the power of the Diamond Sabre. DeeDee, Invera, Alamap, and Angeno build a wall of dark stuff around him and seal him into the shadows. (recounted in Zierath: Lord of the Alliance chapter 19)

Kerkove was locked in the Gnarrhys stuff prison for several months, with the Diamond Saber sustaining him.

Escape

After several months, Kerkove saw a glimmer of light in nearby him. He lunged at it, and discovered he had shadowalked from Kerkovia to Hoffner, where Zierath, Melanie, Thomoff, Phyllis, Daveed, the Manicotti, Kuker, and Landaxis were battling DeeDee and a possessed army. Kerkove combined his power with Zierath's Emerald Claymore and stunned and partially freed DeeDee. Her army slipped back into the shadows. (Zierath, Lord of the Alliance Chapter 18)

The Freeing of DeeDee

Zierath and Kerkove combine the power of the Emerald Claymore and the Diamond Sabre to heal those wounded in the Gnarrhys attack the day before. With the aid of Melanie, Colletta, Phyllis, Daveed, and Kuker, the two Imrhys kings and the Items of Light completely free DeeDee from the Possession. (Zierath: Lord of the Alliance chap 21-22)

Zierath, the Manicotti, Kuker, and Kerkove set sail on the Jolly Elmo to the northeast. (Zierath, Lord of the Alliance chapter 21,22)

Boratch and the Possessed

Three Rookery ships approach the Jolly Elmo in a stormy sea off of North Hagen. Zierath, Kuker, the Manicotti, Kerkove, Palomino, Sir Angus MacBain, and the crew of the Jolly Elmo face off against Boratch, the possessed Alamap, the Stone Rook, Timzick, Paco, Braithe, Abbischo, two Scottugas and many more possessed. Because of the Elmo, none of the crew are possessed. Kerkove and Kuker free Braithe, Abbischo, and the Stone Rook. The Manicotti, and Sir Angus kill the two scottugas. Zierath almost destroys Boratch, but the Dathrhys lord escapes, Zierath is also critically wounded. (Zierath: Lord of the Alliance chapter 29) They rush him to the Isles of Metcalf where Metcalf performs life saving surgery on him, with the aid of Ka'Senne, Kerkove, Maz, Tanyadee, Kuker, Marea, and the Manicotti.

Kartkookine and Innux

Kerkove, Kuker, the Manicotti, Maz, Tanyadee, Rosonka, Sir Angus MacBain, Palomino, and the crew of the Jolly Elmo leave the Capital City to investigate rumors of darkness to the north.

Kartookine and Innux were waiting for them. Innux summons the possessed Visintainer, Paco, Invera, and Brooke to battle the Imrhys. Rosonka is possessed, and Invera badly wounds Kerkove. The Manicotti runs Invera through, mortally wounding her. Kerkove was rushed back to the Capital City where Metcalf worked on him.

Kerkove joined the recuperating Zierath in doing a lot more research, and, with clues gathered by many others, figured out that the Gnarrhys Lord Vampyre and the Dathrhys Lord Innux are the behind the attacks.
