History

As with all Imrhys, Nicholas has lived a very long time. While many of the events of his life have been recorded, there are still many that have yet to be recorded.

Prophesy

The story of Nicholas the Axe-Mage started well before his birth.

In 3375 AI, the Yrish Imrhys Ozzbourne Awakened in a frenzy of Boding Time Sense. He foresaw the coming of the great Yrish heroes Nicholas and Averie. He wrote down all that he could before the memory fades. The book becomes the Yrish Prophecy.

Once it was discovered, the Yrish Prophesy was studied by many scholars.

The Sixth Age (12,501-15,000 AI)

Early Life

On Toberary 30, 13000 AI, Nicholas is born in South Hollearn. Melchiadale kidnaps Nicholas, slaughters a pack of wolvryn, and uses their bodies to create to Chaos Star in an attempt to corrupt the neo-Imrhys.

Ozzbourne, armed with the knowledge from the Yrish Prophesy, rescued Nicholas, beating back Melchiadale. He then spirited the infant off to Yrelund, and raised him as if Nicholas was his own child, while Leeandra become the surrogate mother.

Emory

Nicholas had a strong will from very early on, and was given to doing what he wanted to do, no matter what. When he was eight, Ozzbourne and Leeandra took him to a Scotbode Festival in Lawler. Nicholas eluded them and meets Emory, a young girl peddling jewels/crafts with her mother Cherllane. An instant connection was made between Nicholas and Emory. The two ran off from the carnival on a horseback ride that will highlight Yreland's beauty. The ride ends in a small glen which becomes 'their' place.

Ozzbourne and Leeandra find them on their way back, and while they are dressing him down, Emory fled and hid. Leeandra tried to find her, but could not. Leeandra's Boding Time Sense sent her flashes of warning about Emory, but not her location.

Forbidden Love

When Nicholas the Axemage was 16 and Emory was 18, they meet again and renew the connection that they felt as children.

Leeanedra sees both good and bad things in store for this relationship and cannot risk anything bad happening. Leeannedra forbids Nicholas from seeing her, which is over course the fastest way to encourage Nicholas to do anything.

Nicholas goes out of his way to see her. He spies on her, skips lessons in class, and does not attend key meetings with other politicians. Cherllane knows that Nicholas is spying – and stays out of the way. She knows she scares the young man, but she wants to encourage his getting to know Emory. She runs interference for him without his knowledge.

As Nicholas watches Emory, he begins to pity that Emory leads – cooped up with just her maid to talk to while her mother runs around to others and sucks up to them to create a better life for her family – very similar to Nicholas's situation. There is something in the girl's eyes that is different. Nicholas puts himself out on a limb to find out more about this girl.

Nicholas starts spending more and more time with her, teaching her about magic and she picks it up very quickly. She has an affinity for fire, earth, and lava. Nicholas unintentionally uses his indigo magic to create an emotional bond to her.

Opening Nicholas's Mind

Ozzbourne and Leeannedra discover that Nicholas the Axemage has been doing with Emory. Ozzbourne and Leeannedra decide to open Nicholas's mind to the Boding Prophesy process so he can perceive the danger that Emory holds for him. The process is only partially effective; even after the transfer, Nicholas can only see the good that could come out of the relationship.

Emory's Awakening

On Holidaze 1, 13018, after two years of courtship and an extremely intimate magic using training, Emory and Nicholas have sex. In the throws of passion, Emory Awakened and the emotional bond that she had on Nicholas became so strong she could almost read his mind.

When she Awakened, it explained a lot of the discrepencies within Ozzbourne's original prophesy. Ozzbourne and Leeandra were dismayed.

War with the Goren Empire

In 13,019, the Goren Empire invaded Yrelund. As nominal ruler, Nicholas led the Yrish army against the Goren invaders. Emory was almost always with him. During some of the battles, Emory had to come to Nicholas's rescue, which made Nicholas look weaker and weaker.

Nicholas's Awakening

Lord Fier, the disembodied Turhys, sought out Nicholas. Fier tried to manipulate Nicholas into giving up his body so Fier could take it over. Nicholas Awakens and finds the Indigo Axe. Nicholas drove Lord Fier off.

Magma Rose

With Nicholas's Awakening, Emory lost her perceived superiority over Nicholas. Ozzbourne asked Nicholas to rethink his relationship with Emory. Nicholas, who was a little overwhelmed by the indigo link, planned to tell Emory that Ozzbourne issued an ultimatum. The Axe and the Throne or Emory. He hopes she'll understand.

She doesn't. She flies into a rage. "You told me no one or nothing would stand between us! Now you pick a chair and an axe over your essence-mate! You claimed you loved me! That you didn't care what others thought about us. And now all of that's changed because of your precious throne you once claimed you had no interest for."

Nicholas realizes that she is no longer stable. Tries to sooth, but she goes to power hunger. She threatened to kill Ozzbourne and Leeannedra, she threatened him with death if he tries to wed or bed another.

Emory returned to Cherllane, who was furious that Emory has moved too fast. They argue, and Cherllane admitted that she killed Emory's father. Emory was confused, but stayed with mother, hoping that things would turn out for the best.

Soldiers come for Emory. Cherllane fought them and was killed before Emory's eyes. Emory went berserk and killed the soldiers.

The Death of Ozzbourne

Ozzbourne continued to train Nicholas through 13,023 AI. Melchiadale entered Elisyum and battled Ozzbourne. Ozzbourne lost, but Nicholas arrived in time to drive Melchiadale away. Ozzbourne dissolved into nothingness.

Melchiadale

Melchiadale came to Elysium, battled Nicholas who absorbed him into the Indigo Axe, the attached Orb of the Wyvernes, and his own body. Melchiadale became the living armor and cape of the Axe-Mage.

Zierath

The Yrish Imrhys Nicholas the Axe-Mage comes under Zierath's tuteledge in 13025 AI.

Landaxis

A new Imrhys Awoke in 13153 in the Forest of Zierath, and started to cause some severe problems. It is discovered that Landaxis was a feral child. Zierath sent Pouli and Nicholas the Axe-Mage to bring him. It took a while, but they were able to bring him in, although they were both a little worse for wear. It was a long process to rehabilitate the neo-Imrhys.

Stavius

Nicholas the Axe-Mage returns to the site of his birth and meets a clan of Wolvryns of Purity. They follow him as an overlord, get overly zealous and attack Fort Atkin. Stavius responds and counterstrikes, engaging the Axe-Mage. The battle is stupendous and only stops when Ambrosius intercedes. The Axe-Mage is allowed to leave with the clan of wolvryns.

Draygon and Beautiful Oblivion

In 13,238 AI, Draygon and Beautiful Oblivion, with Carnath and the babd Vampires, attack several settlements in Yrelund. They battle Nicholas the Axemage and several Wolvryns of Purity. Draygon, Beautiful Oblivion, Carnath, and many of the babd escape.

Destruction of the Lighthouse of the Turhys

In 13240, Nicholas heard about where Draygon and Beautiful Oblivion had taken over the Lighthouse of the Turhys. Nicholas mustered his army of wolvryn and shandrhys warriors arrived and attacked the Lighthouse. The Lighthouse, Carnath, Beautiful Oblivion, and many Babd vampires were destroyed. Draygon escaped with Beautiful Oblivion's body.

Hammete

Nicholas developed a close friendship with the Wolvryn warrior Hammete.

The Fourth Gnarrhys War (13,706-13,710 AI)

Spoiler Alert: This is the plot of the novel Zierath: Lord of the Alliance.

The Battle of Maz City

In 13,708 AI, Nicholas responded to the Zierathan Alliance mobilization. He brought a large section of the Yrish army to Maz City to be loaded on to ships for the trip west. The Gnarrhys Lord sensed the massive army build up of the Zierathan Alliance. Through the hidden Friggurnaut, he sends a massive army, led by the possessed Bravebill, Stumme, and Lady Lark. The possessed attack the main army. The defense is led by the Mad Hatter, Clint the Dark Paladin, Andreea, Andr'u, Paco, Bruno, Aerock, and Algennor. Clint and Algennor are possessed. Nicholas steps in and frees Algennor and Clint with the aid of the Abatwaran psionicists and the Indigo Axe. Andr'u and Paco are possessed and shadowwalked away. The combined might of the Imrhys free Stumme and Lady Lark. Nicholas was struck by Bravebill and nearly killed, but Kunce, Maz, Laurstra, and Lindsay shadowwalk out of the darkness surrounding Bravebill. He is freed. One hundred thousand troops are freed by the Imrhys. The Friggurnaut flees without any of the Imrhys seeing him.

The Colossus Massacre

As the massive fleet sails passed the Colossus of Maret, many sea monsters, including the Unknown and Kartookine, and possessed Imrhys attacked. The Spectre Jorgun and the possessed Imrhys Starr went after Mattew, the commander of the fleet. Mattew was just about beaten Nicholas came to his aid. Using the Indigo Axe and his ability to absorb and control Gnarrhys-stuff - such as Melchiadale - the Axe-Mage managed to free Starr, but Jorgun escaped. 100,000 sentients were killed in the battle.

Nicholas's Wyverne Riders brought Nicholas, Faux, Tamara, Rorke, and Anchat to the Isles of Metcalf to let the leaders of the war - Zierath, Kerkove, Phyllis, Daveed, and Melanie - know about the loss.

The Four Corner Lighthouse

As they moved to the final battle, Nicholas and his chosen back-ups - the vampire hunter Stumme and the Remseni engineer Mattesch - used the wormholes between the anchors of the Stone Dee to get to the Four Corner Lighthouse anchor. They accompanied by 30 Wolvryn warriors, including Hammete. When they arrived, Melchiadale quietly influenced the Axe-Mage to walk out of the Lighthouse while still holding the Axe, thereby preventing the wormhole from opening. They were attacked by the innubus Kawan Stort, who sealed Nicholas into a block of ice. While Stumme and Mattesch battled - and decapitate - Kawan, possessed Imrhys - Angeno, the Rickster, Strolling, Stevess, and Teeya - shadowwalked in and started to possess the Wolvryn. Stumme freed Angeno by slicing through the Gnarrhys-stuff. Nicholas broke free and joined the battle. Nicholas freed both Stevess and the Rickster by absorbing the Gnarrhys-stuff, but before he could release it, and Teeyagrabbed Nicholas's cape. Melchiadale greedily grabbed the Gnarrhys-stuff and reformed, stunning all the Imrhys for a moment as he escaped from the Orb of the Wyvernes.

Melchiadale tempted Nicholas, Stumme, and Mattesch with their hopeful dreams, but Angeno showed the possible future in which Zierath was killed, Vampyre and all the vampires were destroyed, Mattesch received knoweldge before he was killed, all the Items of Light were destroyed, and Nicholas's decapitated head was in Melchiadale's hands.

Melchiadale went into a rage, but was beaten by the recovering Imrhys. The Rickster shoved the Orb of the Wyvernes through Melchiadale's body, and then Nicholas re-attached the Orb to the Indigo Axe, sealing Melchiadale back into the Axe and his body.

Nicholas then used the wormhold from the Lighthouse to the Stone Dees.

The Stone Dees

Nicholas arrived at the Stone Dees and did his part of destroying Vampyre.
