History

As with all Imrhys, Zierath has lived a very long time. While many of the events of his life have been recorded, there are still many that have yet to be recorded.

The Fourth Age (7501-10,000 AI)

Early Life (8766-8786)

Zierath is the eldest son of Davez and Deenev. Davez was an Imrhys professor at the Huntian University in Rado, and Deenev was a scholar and chief librarian of the Huntian University.

While quite intelligent, Zierath was an average student who only excelled when the material interested him. He had a fanciful mind, and was interested in music, art, and drama. He also had a flair for doing magic, which he did without practicing while others were working really hard. It came easily to him.

He made many close friends in his childhood and teenage years who he kept in contact with throughout their lives. His closest friends were also professor's children. They included: Karack, an avian-owl man; Graniel, a gheera man; Dikuras, a bugbahar man; Aramndro, a centaur man; Mikael , a human man; Hadrian, a vahnrhys man; Krindi, a lobos man; Surandi Floren and Kundala Harzandi, human women; Sessandora, a darhys woman; Redamalin, a gheera woman; Kazzanel, an otterling woman; Kartalina, a cougara woman.

During his secondary school time, he also had a couple fairly serious dating relationships. His first love was a human woman named Allypoyon. The two broke up aimably and continued being friends.

The second was with a tigran woman Minorin. Zierath became scared of the closeness of the the relationship and broke it off, creating harsh feelings.

When Zierath was a teenager, Deenev started training Ambrosius, an Imrhys. Although Ambrosius was over 100 years old, he appeared to be about 20, and he and Zierathbecame fast friends, and was the only one of his friends who could keep Zierath's pride in his magical abilites in check.

He did well enough in school to enter the University of Rado. He and Karack became roommates.

Awakening
On Santil 18, 8786, Zierath was in the Rado Mountains working on a piece of artwork for his classes. The King Cobrake, who found a way out of Valder's hidden cave, attacks Zierath's horse. Zierath chases the insane snake and falls into the cavern, hitting his head. He wakes slowly as the King Cobrake appears. Zierath's Imrhys power Awakens, and he destroys the King Cobrake. The Queen Cobrake flees with a few of her eggs, and Zierath returns to Muskegeon, Rado, to celebrate with Davez and Deenev.
Learning and Dealing with Death

Zierath spent from 8786 through 8810 training with his parents and the other Imrhys teachers at the Rado University. He met and befriended many of the Fourth Generation Imrhys who came to Rado - the Karland of Kilian, Dykstra, Mik'l, Cind'ee, Paul Black, and many others.

He spent from 8810-8818 in Hunt, learning from the Hovden League, and became close friends with many of the elder Imrhys there, including Colletta, Phyllis, Daveed, Melanie.

Zierath returned to Rado in 8818 when he received word that the first of his mortal friends, the lobos man Krindi, had passed away. Over the next several years, many of his childhood friends passed away, and Zierath had to learn how to deal with the fact he was going to on living, and his friends would pass on.

By the time he left Rado again in 8850, only Surandi Floren, Allypoyon, Karack, and Sessendora were still alive.

The Scottish Hylands

In 8850, Davez and Zierath move to the Hylands in Scottlund this year as Davez follows his sociological research. They visit Ylvisaker in his capital city. Zierath takes a dislike to Ylvisaker who seems too full of himself and remote, not understanding that Ylvisaker had recently lost his companion. He calls Ylvisaker ‘Ylvi.’

Ylvisaker finds Zierath too irreverent and immature. They carefully arrange it so they don’t encounter each other too often

Three years later, Dazez completes his research and returns to Rado. Zierath remains behind in the Hylands, immersing himself in their culture.

Zierath becomes a fixture in the Hyland culture, and starts to be known as 'the Scottsman,' first as a back-handed compliment, and then as a term of respect.

Zierath did return to Rado occasionally during these years. He did make it back to see the deathbed of his first love Allypoyon in 8867 AI, who had lived to be 101 years old.

He also visited his friends' homelands as well - Ambrosius in Kennius, Dykstra in Dykstra, the Wang clan in Wang, and the Karland in Kilian.

In 8900 he helps the MacBain clan leader in a vampire attack, and becomes 'adopted' into the clan.

The Saga of the Dread Pirate Robert
Around 8945, Zierath joins the crew of the pirate ship Meow, captained by Faux (the Dread Pirate Robert). He becomes close friends with Paul Black (the Black Bo'sun), the Philcan (Mr. Phil) and Jystad. They become privateers, interacting with the Old Empire, Ylvisaker, and the other countries in the area as outlaws. They meet Princess Tamara and Empress Melissa. The result is a strong connection between Tamara and Faux and Tamara's Awakening. Zierath writes the Saga of the Dread Pirate Robert as a wedding gift for Faux and Tamara. (referred to in Zierath:Lord of the Alliance chap )
Exploration and Maz

In late 8966, Zierath re-united with his early life friends Ambrosius, Dykstra, the Karland, and Dan'l took a voyage around the continent of Seefell. The voyage lasts 20 years.

When the complete their voyage, everyone returns to their respective homelands. Zierath decides to return to Rado and visit his parents.

There he meets his little brother, Maz. Maz is as multi-talented as his brother, and in addition to being a math wizard, he is in a heavy metal band as its drummer. On Gothober 4, 8989, while Maz is playing, he becomes so intense that his Imrhys power Awakens. The Awakening is so powerful that he triggers a ringshudder. Zierath is the first Imrhys on hand and helps to start training him.

Freedom Fighter

In 9000 AI, Zierath returns to Scottlund and visits Ambrosius and the Kennius tribe. Finds them in a state of war as they are battling the troops of Ylvisaker to protect the Khobald tribe the Kennius share their valley with. Racism runs rampant through the Scottlund societies; even old allies like the giants and the elves are having trouble with the humans. Ylvisaker is doing nothing.

Zierath and Ambrosius start organizing locals to battle the Ylvisaker troops.

On Ronolom 2, 9000. Zierath, as the Scottsman, returns to the Hylands and mobilizes the human and dwarven Hylanders. They lead a raid on Davez City, freeing dozens of captured Greenlak peoples.

Ylvisaker mobilizes his forces and tries to track down the ‘rebels.’ Zierath and Ambrosius stay just a little ahead.

Ylvisaker turns to the Imrhys seeress Annie, who foresees where Zierath and Ambrosius are going to be with their troops. Ylvisaker goes to battle them. Zierath and Ylvisaker battle, and Ylvisaker realizes that the Scottsman is Zierath. Zierath escapes, much to Ylvisaker’s frustration.

Looking for peace, the Karland of Kilian and Dykstra approach Zierath and Ambrosius and calm them down, reminding them of the costs of war.

On A Day Between Years 0, 9001. Ylvisaker meets with Ambrosius and Zierath. They discuss many things, and they bring in many witnesses and victims. Ylvisaker’s eyes are opened.

Ylvisaker’s racist generals attempt a coup, which is quickly overcome by the Imrhys and several officers and soldiers.

Ylvisaker names Zierath ‘Laird of the Scottish Forest, which includes is the site of the future city of Castle Zierath. Zierath serves on Ylvisaker's advisory board for many years.

The Pericales Dictatorship and Jordan

In 9177 AI, Annie had a Boding Time Sense about events on a continent far to the east. She foresaw great danger if she and a group of Imrhys did not travel and deal with the danger. Zierath was among those who travelled with her. Ylvisaker does not want his nobles to go. They go anyway, starting a major rift between the older Imrhys and the younger Fourth Age Imrhys.

Once on the continent of South Loyalund, the western Imrhys meet Dougiano and Sherismith, two Imrhys who were trying to help free the area from the grasp of the Pericales Dictatorship. Zierath, Dan'l the Wang, Mattew, and Smehren followed the vague directions of Annie's future sense and the clues to the power behind Pericales' throne - a Second Age Imrhys named Warez. The four younger Imrhys barely escape.

Annie discovered the proto-Imrhys Jordan, and Zierath helped train him to battle Pericales and Warez. Zierath battled Warez again, driving the elder Imrhys away, and opening the way for Jordan to defeat Pericales.

Zierath spent the next three hundred years bouncing back and forth between Ylvisaker's land and the Jordanian Empire.

He befriended Creon Bochs, a member of the royal family, in 9377 AI. The two of them followed a love of architecture and went about designing the 'perfect' city. While working with Creon, Zierath met his fiancee Antigone. Zierath and Antigone fall in love with each other. Jordan sees what is happening and confronts the two of them. He forces Antigone to make a choice. She chooses Creon.

Creon and Zierath complete work on Creon City, and on Juni 12, 9382. Antigone and Creon marry. As a gift, Zierath creates the Rod of Creon and gives it to Creon. Shortly after the wedding, Zierath returns to Scottlund.

In 10047 AI, Annie has a Boding Time Sense vision so intense it puts her in a coma for a week. While in the coma, she tells of a great evil in South Loyalund. Ylvisaker takes her seriously, and rounds up as many Imrhys up as he can and amasses a massive fleet of ships. They set sail for South Loyalund.

On Jazzuary 27, the fleet was attacked en route by Savaron who had learned how to throw Dark Knives of Gnarrhys stuff. The Dark Knives slice through the fleet, killing Ylvisaker and many others. Zierath's ship is destroyed and sinking. In his last conscious moment, Ylvisaker throws the Emerald Claymore to Zierath. Zierath is able to save himself, his brother Maz, and two others from ship: Zawn and Duncan MacBain. The Dark Knives engulf Faux, and Zierath summons a huge lightning bolt and strikes Faux and the Gnarrhys stuff with it. The Gnarrhys stuff dissipates, and Faux survives.

Zierath returned to Scottlund, only to discover that the Dathrhys lords and vampires had come out of hiding and were terrorizing the continent, and the sea monsters were accosting coastal regions. The same was true throughout the known ring.

In 10,058 AI, Mik'l, Pet'r Dan'l, Cind'ee, Zierath, Ambrosius, Dante, and Bruno invade Wang. They drive the Friggurnaut back underground, but at the cost of Dante's life.

In 10,0062 AI, Ambrosius and Zierath travel along the coast near Monroe. It was a cold winter night, and the winter moon was bright in the sky. They came upon a camp of their warriors. It looked like a pack of valaceraptors had entered the camp. There was blood everywhere, and bodies lay twisted in death. They heard the sound of fighting at the center of camp. They hurried and found twenty of our human soldiers and three giants fighting Boratch. In the time it took the two Imrhys to leap off our horses and draw our weapons, five more men and one giant went down with bloody gashes. Ambrosius blasted him with lightning, and that flung Boratch away from the other soldiers, but he was up, barely singed, a moment later. Boratch ducked beneath Ambrosius's mace and hit him with those claws of his, tearing through his chainmail. Another quarter inch and he would have torn through Ambrosius's ribs. Zierath stepped in and slashed at him with the Emerald Claymore. Zierath missed, but so did Boratch. After a prolonged fight, Zierath was able to tag him with the Emerald Claymore. Boratch screamed and the Emerald Claymore flared green flame. Boratch fled, and the two Imrhys lords couldn't catch him. (recounted in Zierath: Lord of the Alliance chap. 6)

About fifty of the Goths escape, including Nights'maron.

The Zierathan Alliance

When Savaron is finally defeated, Zierath and his fellow Imrhys banded together to create a better society on the ruins of the one left. Calling the western section of the continent Zierathdom, Zierath started to rule and designed a constitution - with the help of his fellow Imrhys and a delegation of sentients from the area. They created a monarchist republic with checks and balances to keep everyone at peace with each other.

On Bruil 1, 10087, Zierath, Ambrosius, the Karland, Mik'l, Cind'ee, Annie, Dan'l, Melissa, and Dykstra form the Zierathan Alliance. It started out on the western seaboard of the Scottish Continent. Within a few years, with the aid of Ambrosius, the Alliance spread to the eastern seaboard. The countries on the continent of Gimlund, now led by Imrhys friends, joined as well.

Zierath decided not to make his capital in Neverman where Ylvisaker had his, but, drawing on his knowledge of architecture and city planning he developed with Creon Bochs, started to design his own capital city and castle. Zierath's feet collided with the Grank in a great dark woods. A rainbow of colors flooded his senses. He stood in a circle with other Imrhys, and a great terrible shape crisscrossed with light. He received a second vision which showed a huge battle surrounded him. He and Annie fought dark figures at the entrance of Castle Zierath. He was standing over the bleeding body of Ka’Senne whose arm had been ripped off. The Friggurnaut killed Annie. Zierath struck at the monster, but then Boratch punched through Zierath's chest. “I dreamt of this,” Boratch hissed. “I’m just lucky you didn’t follow the other vision,” Boratch said. (Zierath: Lord of the Alliance, chap. 8)

In 17340, Zierath heard rumors of a powerful Imrhys Awakening in the far east. He travelled to the country Winter and and tracked Memon back to an abandoned camp. Memon sensed Zierath and hurls a ball of black-blue energy at him, barely missing him. Zierath dodges out of the way and calmed the irate Memon down. Memon refused to travel back to Zierathdom with Zierath. Zierath stayed with him about a year to begin training, but then returned to Castle Zierath.

The Eighth Age (17501-20,000)

Leave of Absence

From 17,920 through 17980, Zierath and Kath take a leave of absence from Castle Zierath and went on a tour of the western lands.

In 17940, Contortus travels until he meets Zierath and Ka'Senne, who are in the area.

Memon Again
Zierath received some disturbing rumors from the far east in 18,010. Memon, who received limited training from Zierath, was flexing his proverbial muscles and threatening the peace in the area. Zierath and Pouli returned to Winter and convince Memon to come to Zierathdom to receive more training and a better education.
The Mammotherium

In 18030 AI, Zierath and Memon visited Araya in Arathea so Memon could learn more of the healing arts. While they were there, they received word that a powerful new Type V Dathrhys had come into being. Zierath, Araya, and Memon travelled to Archaeron, joining the ruler Taladon and his teacher Torilena. On Toberary 32, the five Imrhys meet the Mammotherium midway between Port Bald and Delmont, and engaged him in battle.  Araya and Lord Zierath step forward first, as the eldest of the group.  Showing more intelligence than credited with, the Mammotherium did not even try to engage them in battle. Instead he picked up the over-confident lord, throwing him three miles out to sea, and then shook an avalanche down upon the fastidious queen, eliminating them for the time being.  Torilena and Memon, not wanting the young Taladon to engage the creature again, sent him back out of the immediate battle area.  Though slightly less arrogant after seeing their elders dealt with, Torilena and Memon still believed they were good enough to take on the dathrys.  Memon was dealt with first; the Mammotherium takes his polearm and uses it as a giant club, bashing Memon several hundred feet down into the sand.  Torilena is left standing alone against the monster, and Mammo decided it was more fun to play bouncy ball with her than to deal with her in a manner similar to the other three Imrhys.  Taladon was not pleased at his teacher’s treatment, and summoned his magic, jumping out of his hiding place, and grabbing his teacher made an enormous leap, landing over a mile away.  By the time Taladon made it back to the fight area, the Mammotherium had rumbled on along his way, and Araya and Memon are digging themselves out.  Araya healed Torilena, and Zierath joined the group again shortly.

The chagrined Imrhys prepared for the next stage of battle, a little wiser and a bit less confident.  On Wantober 7, the Arachareon army failed to stop the Mammotherium, but it gave the the five Imrhys a chance to catch up. This time they worked as a team. The five combine, sending one blast of magic at the gigantic dathrys, and it is blown across the channel into neighboring Khitania, landing against a mountain and breaking into seven pieces.  When the Imrhys find it, they all examine it for signs of life and magic.  Finding none, they bury the pieces under the mountain to avoid them ever re-combining.  Memon, Torilena and Taladon, being the young Imrhys they are, immediately claim souveniers: for Taladon, the tusks (attached to part of the skull); for Torilena, the trunk is the souvenier of the day, and for Memon only a claw will do.  Zierath and Araya debate the wisdom of taking such a souvenier, but their love of education and giving sage warnings eventually wins out, and Zierath takes the tail, and Araya one of the giant rubies which had been the Mammo’s eyes (purely for educational and academic purposes, though Araya does quite love pretty things, and has the ruby placed on top of her scepter).  Taladon’s tusks are placed in the same museum as the Mammo’s weapon, and Memon gives the claw to the ruler of his nation.  Archareaon throws a great party for the five heroes, and Khitalina is quietly informed of the dathrys buried in her land.

In 18063, the tail in the Zierathan History Museum disappeared. No trace of it could be found.

The War of 18081

Zierath was drawn into the War of 18081 by Yorve Hafmene and Araya. Zierath and Benster battled one of the leaders, the Vampire Queen Amaralina Darren. The vain and powerful vampire queen Amaralina Darren was always looking for ways to enlarge her vampire clan with the finest and most handsome men. Once they were turned into vampires, they became enthralled to her and obeyed her every command. Lutz sent Lord Zierath and the Lord of Three Islands Benster to find the vampire queen and defeat her. While searching through the Gattaway Mountains, Zierath and Benster became separated. Benster found the ruins of a palace of the dark elves which Amaralina had taken as her own and was rebuilding. Benster was discovered, destroyed many of them vampires, but was overpowered. Amaralina had witnessed his fighting ability and power, and decided to make him into a vampire. As she ingested Benster’s Imrhys blood, she became more and more powerful, and Benster became enthralled to her. Zierath arrived to try to rescue Benster. At the vampire queen’s command, Benster attacked Zierath, and the two fought to a standstill. Amaralina, with the blood of the Imrhys lord in her, was very powerful and knocked Zierath senseless as he battled Benster. She was about to kill Zierath when Benster shook off her enslavement. Amaralina had tried to make Benster a vampire, but Imrhys cannot be turned into vampires. Angry at being made into a slave, Benster attacked the vampire queen and badly wounded her. She fled deep into the mountains. He was not able to destroy her, but neither she nor her enslaved male vampires were able to participate in the War of 18081.

The Return of the Mammotherium
In 18123, Taladon sent out word that the Mammotherium had reappeared. Zierath returned to Khitania, and proceeded to fight alongside Araya, Taladon, Yorve, Firnadra, Elana, Sashkay, Pain, Duna, and Brotaod against the Mammotherium Prime and many of its descendents. After Brotoad made initial contact, Zierath and Duna went after the Mammotherium Medley, who proceeded to knock Zierath silly and was rescued by Brotoad's using white magic to cancel his inertia. Zierath then saved Duna after the Mammotherium Bobert struck him up into the air. Zierath ended up fighting Mammotheriums Secondus and Tertiary and was instrumental in defeating them. While a few of the Mammotheriums escaped, most were destroyed.
The Invasion of the Hidden Lands
Many Dathrhys were migrating to the west, and Zierath was concerned. He led a fleet to the far west to the Hidden Lands where he found and fought the Dathrhys as well as the isolated Imrhys lord Alex de Viking. Alex and Zierath came to an understanding, and Zierath started to train him in more of his abilities.
Nights'Maron at Vampyre
In 18200, at the Stone Dees celebration party which Zierath and several other Imrhys were attending, Nights'Maron, father of the Goth Vampires, appeared with many of his children. Despite the best efforts of the attending Imrhys, Nights'Maron absorbed some of the essence of Vampyre, becoming more powerful. Nights'Maron fled to adjust to the influx of power.
Intusa
In 18206, the neo-Imrhys Intusa arrived at Castle Zierath to receive training.
The Fifth Gnarrhys War (18829-

As the Fifth Gnarrhys War intensified, Zierath battled Mount Mammotherium alongside Araya, Alex de Viking, Phyllis, Firnedra Drehmond, and Khitania. The battle ended in Khitania's death.

As the Imrhys warriors closed in on the Father and the Isle of Kofoot, Zierath led a small scouting party including Atokad, Yorve Hafeman, to the northern shore of Horn de Treasure. They were ambushed by the Friggurnaut. Zierath managed to drive the Friggurnaut off while his companions fought off the frigs.

Zierath was involved in the re-sealing of the Father into the Achar.

Romantic Relationships

Over his long life, Zierath has had several romantic relationships.

Allypoyon

Allpoyon was the first love of his life. A golden skinned human woman, they dated for a few months before they realized that they were better friends than lovers. Their break up was amiable, and they remained friends for the rest of Allypoyon's life. They had the same bantering friendship that he and his school friends - and later his Imrhys friends- had. She was always one who could give him perspective. He was with her when she passed away. Her death hit him hard.

Minorin

Minorin was a tigran woman. Zierath and she were madly in love, and Zierath was overwhelmed by the intensity of the relationship. He cooled his emotions off, perhaps a bit too much and cut the relationship off abruptly. He had regrets and guilt treating her so callously. The relationship shaped his patience and reactions for the future.

Melissa

During the Fourth Age, Zierath and the Imrhys Melissa of the Old Empire were an on-again, off-again item, each unintentionally hurting the other, making up, and then hurting each other again. While their feelings were powerful, they were not a good match for each other. Zierath was always growling under his breath, and Melissa was alway sniping. They remain polite to each other, but easily fall into the pattern of growling and sniping at each other.

Antigone Jordan

Shortly after the final break-up of Zierath and Melissa, Zierath escaped to the Jordanian Empire where he met and fell in love with Antigone Jordan, one of his best friend's fiancee. The two hid their love from the friend, whom they both loved, but Emperor Jordan I walked in on them one time, and forced Antigone to make a choice. Despite her love of Zierath, she could not bear him living forever, and being seperated; and she loved Creon. They left on amicable terms, and Creon never learned of the affair.

Ka'Senne

Zierath had sworn off women when Dykstra introduced him to the Ambassador of Ipsenne. Zierath and Ka'Senne soon started dating. Their relationship is one of constant communication, patience with each other's idiosyncracies, and an interest in each other's interests. The marriage is very much like a rose, as long as you remember that there are thorns on a rose.

Writing for Zierath

Zierath is intelligent and clever. He makes wisecracks, understated observations, and will keep his mouth shut, letting his silence speak loudly for him. He and his friends constantly needle each other with sly comments.

He is a careful observer and a detective. Even when he looks like he is not paying attention, he is.

He often has twelve or more things going on in his mind at the same time, and will occasionally go off on tangents.

Zierath can appear arrogant or pompous, particularly when he gets into a teaching mode.
